The Top 10 Things HR Practitioners Should Know About Compensation
Communicating about Compensation is often a challenge with other functional areas of HR, other parts of the organization, and employees regarding Compensation practice, regulations, philosophy, terminology, strategy, and basic principles. Whether you’re a seasoned compensation professional, new to the profession, or hold a position in another function of HR, during this presentation you will learn ways to help others gain knowledge and understand what is involved in the practice of Compensation. We will review some Compensation fundamentals to help you communicate more easily with others in your company and better accomplish goals within your organization.

Michael Hannah, Cool River Consulting
Based in Dallas, Michael has over 12 years of compensation consulting experience. His experiences have ranged from managing large national and international compensation surveys to designing and implementing various talent and compensation programs. His projects have included developing job descriptions, job evaluation processes (including FLSA status decision matrices), both traditional and broadband salary structures, career ladders, incentive plans, performance management programs and various HR policies. As part of all his projects, Michael looks to ensure that all HR programs will work together to support the overall business needs of the client.

Michael has worked with a variety of clients, ranging from small niche companies to large Fortune 100 companies. His experiences span various industries including High Tech/IT, Retail, Manufacturing, Telecommunications, Transportation and HealthCare. He recently assisted an organization in developing their total rewards strategy and recommending appropriate HR programs to align with that strategy. Michael has conducted many executive interviews with organizations to gain a well-grounded understanding of their current and future business environment. He has also worked with several organizations to effectively align their performance management system with their compensation programs.

Michael received his B.B.A. in just over two years from the University of Texas at Dallas. He frequently speaks at regional HR meetings on current issues in compensation.

Susanne Perez, President - Synergy Management Solutions, Inc.
During lunch, Susanne Perez will give an overview of the TexasCompensation.com Compensation and Benefits Survey, along with an update on recent results.

Susanne Perez co-founded Synergy Management Solutions, Inc. in 2001. She has over 15 years experience developing and managing human resource programs and compensation systems in a wide variety of industries including high-technology, manufacturing, financial services, broadcasting, hospitality and gaming.

Prior to founding Synergy, Ms. Perez was the Compensation and HRIS Manager for Aladdin Resort and Casino, which she helped open in August 2000. Prior to joining Aladdin, Ms. Perez was the Corporate Compensation and Benefits analyst for Caesars World, Inc., formerly the corporate office for the Caesars casinos.

Ms. Perez holds a Bachelors degree in Organization/Industrial Psychology with a minor in Human Resources Management from California State University, Long Beach. Ms. Perez is an active member of the Society of Human Resources Management, the Southern Nevada Human Resource Association, World at Work and the Southern Nevada Compensation and Benefits Association.
